Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to questions commonly asked by Old Inlet Customers

What are your business hours?
Our business hours change seasonally based on how good the fishing is and the number of people fishing. Business hours are posted on the front door of the store and on the web site.

Where is the store located?
We are located 2 miles north of Indian River Inlet and 4 miles south of Dewey Beach on Rt 1.

Do I need a license to fish? Do I need a permit to drive on the beach?
Answers to both questions can be found on the Fishing 101 page.

What are the current recreational fishing regulations?
Current size and creel limits can be obtained by going to the DNREC Fish and Wildlife website. Or ask for a regulation sheet at the front counter in our store.

What's biting?
Check the latest Fishing Report.

I'm new to the area or new to fishing, how do I get started?
A primer for area fishing can be found on our Fishing 101 page.

Where/when is the best place/time to fish?
Check out the monthly Fishing Calendar for what's hot and when:

Where can we go crabbing?
Unfortunately the DSSP does not have any bridges or piers to crab from in the immediate area. There is a crabbing pier in the Holts Landing State Park off of Route 26 - 3 miles inland from Bethany Beach. Assawoman State Park, near Bethany Beach, has a public crabbing dock.

Where can we go clamming?
Tower Road or New Road (bayside), just south of Dewey Beach, is the best and easiest place to get to for clamming.

Where can we rent clam rakes?
Old Inlet rents clam rakes for $15.00 a day with a $50.00 deposit on each rake. All rentals are for a 24 hour period. Deposits can be held on credit card (Discover Card, MasterCard or Visa).

Where can we rent fishing rods?
Old Inlet rents boat rods, jetty rods and surf rods. Jetty rods (8 ft.) are $15.00 a day with a $50.00 deposit on each rod. Surf rods (10 ft) are $15.00 a day with a $50.00 deposit on each rod. All rentals are for a 24 hour period. Deposits can be held on credit card (Discover Card, MasterCard or Visa).

Where can we rent a boat?
Boat rentals are not currently available in the area.

Is there a headboat we can go out on for a day trip? Can you recommend a charter for a fishing trip?
Contact information for local charter boats and head boats can be found on our Charter Service Listing page.

Where is the best place to take a kid fishing?
The best place to take a kid fishing is the beach. Or, if you want to go to the Indian River Inlet there is a sandy beach on the west side of the Coast Guard Station.

What kind of reels do you fix? Do you fix rods?
A list of our parts inventory can be found on the Repair Page on the website.
